The Hub’s Future Secured!
We’re thrilled to announce that The Hub’s future in Shrivenham is safe and bright. The sale of the Hub building has now been completed, and we are delighted to share that our new landlord, J.Knapp & Sons is a wonderfully community-minded organisation who has been determined to help The Hub continue.
This means that we will be renting 50% of the building and, even better, we’ll be sharing it with Shrivenham Post Office – fantastic news for the whole community!
There will be a short pause in operations while we transition: The Hub will close over Christmas in its current form, but we’re aiming to reopen by the beginning of March in our new setup.
We are so grateful to all of our members, volunteers and friends who have stood by us. Your support has made this possible, and we can’t wait to welcome you back in the spring.
The team:
Our Mission:
To equip the local community with the information, skills and resources to inspire and enable them to make more sustainable choices in their everyday lives. Focussing on three main areas identified in part from the results of our community survey and in part by the top 10 solutions to reverse global warming taken from a peer reviewed book by Project Drawdown - The Top 100 Solutions to Reverse Global Warming
We were delighted to be included in a short documentary by a local Student, Molly who wanted to share stories about people making an environmental difference in their local community.
Our most recent project: The Refillery
Following the overwhelming success of the Sustainable Shrivenham Community Hub - which has been serving the community since 2023 as a reuse, recycle, and repair centre, a new local initiative is taking shape to push the boundaries of eco-conscious living even further. The Refillery, a not-for-profit community refill shop offering affordable, packaging-free essentials to help residents cut plastic waste and shop more sustainably.
The new venture is a direct response to community feedback gathered through The Hub. Building on that engagement, The Refillery offers a range of plastic-free goods, including dry foods, personal care products, and refillable household cleaners. Customers can bring their own containers, making sustainable shopping more affordable and accessible to all.
What we’ve been up to since 2019…
60%
of rubbish that ends up in the rubbish bin could be recycled
73%
less air pollution is created when making recycled paper than manufacturing it from raw materials
13%
of edible food and drink purchased in households in the UK is wasted
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has
