Dear Members,
Sorry to have taken so long to get these notes out but as with us all life keeps getting in the way, especially in the run up to Christmas.
We held our November meeting in the Memorial Hall on the 27th. Despite the somewhat cold and soggy weather, we were pleased to see some of you, who we had met at the first 2 meetings and one or two other new faces. It was encouraging and our thanks again to those of you who were able to make it.
We are very pleased to note the following status updates and next steps, however the full details are in the minutes attached.
Steps So Far.
We were very pleased to be able to announce the success of our application to become a Community Action Group (CAG).
We held our first workshop on the 21st November, looking at sustainable alternatives for Christmas wrapping. The attendance and feedback were both very positive.
We are continuing to develop the website and hope to have it up and running in the near future.
We have booked the hall for the 28th of March and will be holding a second Sustainable Living Event, following on from the success of the one held last year.
We have begun planning another workshop based on making your own sustainable alternatives to household cleaning products.
We have booked the Chestnut room in the hall for our next open meeting for Thursday 30th January at 7.30. We are hoping to include some discussion around electric cars with locals who have already made the switch.
We have applied for and been granted some funds by the Village Fete Committee, for which we thank them.
Kate Myrie and Kate Mortiboy attended a meeting held by Local Developers Legal and General to discuss their commitment to working closely with existing residents, landowners and local authorities, to ensure they bring value to the community as a whole.
Next Steps
Set up a bank account and take steps towards seeking funding for future projects
Finding storage space so that we can move towards having a refill station among other things.
Developing opportunities to facilitate recycling of items that can’t otherwise be recycled or can be specifically re-purposed when collected separately….ie printer ink cartridges, plastic bottle caps.
Further develop and extend contacts with schools, local groups, the Defence Academy and the local Wind and Solar Farm , to help us to build links and bring in people in across all age, gender and ethnicity groups . Plan to ensure we provide opportunities to include and inspire everyone.
Possibly running a competition to design the setup for the phone-box which will become an information hub accessible to all on the High Street.
Finalise planning and arrangements for next workshop and Sustainable Living Event
Explore supporting and participating in the Fete Committee event on May 8th
Could we specifically ask that if you know of any garage or other spaces within the village to rent, that you pass that information on to us.
Finally we would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Sustainable Shrivenham Committee, to wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year.
